Taraba State, fondly called “Nature’s Gift to the Nation,” warmly welcomes the Governors of the Northeast to Jalingo for the Northeast Governors’ Forum Meeting holding today and tomorrow.

Created in 1991, Taraba is a land of scenic beauty, cultural richness, and vast resources. The State shares boundaries with six States; Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau States, as well as the Republic of Cameroon, making it a strategic hub for trade, tourism, and investment.

A HAVEN OF NATURAL WONDERS

As our distinguished guests gather in Jalingo, Taraba proudly invites them to explore some of its unique treasures:

• Gashaka-Gumti National Park: Nigeria’s largest national park, home to diverse wildlife and breathtaking landscapes.

• Mambilla Plateau: The highest plateau in Nigeria, blessed with cool weather, rolling hills, tea plantations, and dairy farms.

• Kurmi Forest: One of West Africa’s richest natural reserves, highlighting Taraba’s biodiversity and eco-tourism potential.

AGRICULTURE AND COMMODITY COMPANIES

Taraba’s fertile land supports agriculture as the backbone of its economy. The State is home to thriving commodity companies that demonstrate readiness for agro-industrial growth:

• Highland Tea Company, Mambilla Plateau: Producers of Nigeria’s finest highland tea.

• Palm Oil Company, Ussa: Boosting palm oil production and processing.

• Rice Milling and Processing Company, Gassol:  Expanding rice value chains.

• Cassava Processing Company, Jalingo: Advancing food security through agro-processing.

• Other enterprises in yam, maize, sorghum, coffee, groundnuts, and livestock.

TARABA’S CONTRIBUTION TO REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Northeast is bound be common challenges and shared opportunities. Taraba’s heritage and resources provide unique contributions to each State’s development agenda:

• Gombe (Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya): Taraba’s livestock and agricultural produce, rice, maize, millet, and more, will complement Gombe’s agro-livestock investments and the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park, strengthening regional value chains in food processing and trade.

• Borno (Governor Babagana Umara Zulum): Taraba’s fertile farmlands and forest resources can support Borno’s agricultural recovery and food security drive, especially in rice, maize, and livestock.

• Adamawa (Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri): Taraba’s tourism gems, Mambilla Plateau and Gashaka-Gumti National Park, offer joint prospects with Adamawa’s cultural heritage for boosting regional tourism and eco-development.

• Yobe (Governor Mai Mala Buni): Taraba’s cassava and rice processing industries provide opportunities for collaboration with Yobe in scaling agro-processing and fighting food insecurity.

• Bauchi (Governor Bala Mohammed): Taraba’s riches in livestock, alongside tea, coffee, and palm oil, complement Bauchi’s livestock investment drive, creating avenues for stronger agribusiness and regional industrial expansion.

A MEETING OF UNITY AND GROWTH

As the Northeast Governors’ Forum convenes in Jalingo, Taraba offers not just a serene environment for dialogue but also a vision of partnership where nature, culture, and opportunity converge for regional prosperity.

We Say: Welcome to Taraba State, where Nature, Culture and opportunity converge.
