The Gombe State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its fight against crime, with the arrest of a 53-year-old suspected drug dealer, a tricycle theft suspect, and four young men allegedly involved in armed robbery.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said the arrests were made on Monday, September 8, 2025, during separate operations across Gombe metropolis.

According to the police, operatives of the Anti-Violence Squad arrested one Rakiya Ahmed, aged 53, at Barunde Quarters, By-pass Area. She was allegedly found in possession of eight blocks of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa.

The suspect is currently in custody, while investigations continue. Police said the case would be transferred to the appropriate unit for prosecution once concluded.

In another operation earlier in the day, detectives from Gona Division arrested Auwal Suleiman, 36, of Bagadaza Quarters. He was reportedly found with a tricycle bearing registration number YLA 536WL, suspected to have been stolen.

Police investigations revealed that the tricycle had been taken from where it was parked around Wuro Biriji, By-pass Quarters, Gombe. The rightful owner has since been identified, and further inquiries are ongoing.

Meanwhile, four young men have been arrested for allegedly robbing a resident of Hayin Kwarin Misau Quarters on the night of September 7.

The suspects, Ibrahim Saleh (18), Umar Isah (18), Hassan Yau (18), and Haruna Isah (22), were said to have conspired and attacked their victim with machetes. Items carted away included foodstuffs valued at over ₦23,000, a mobile handset worth ₦37,000, and ₦30,000 cash.

Police detectives later arrested the suspects, who reportedly confessed to the crime. Some of the stolen items were recovered.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, commended the efforts of the officers who carried out the arrests. He assured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

He also called on the public to continue providing timely and useful information to aid police operations in curbing crime across the State.
