BASHIR ABUBAKAR GAZAKI (AKAWUNTA): Championing Intellectual Growth and Youth Empowerment in Northern Nigeria

Bashir Gazaki, popularly known as Akawunta, is a dynamic youth advocate, community organizer, and the founder of Arewa Genius Hub (AGH), a digital platform that promotes education, mentorship, and entrepreneurship across Northern Nigeria. A native of Jos, Plateau State, Bashir later pursued his higher education in Gombe, where he graduated with a degree in Accounting from Gombe State University.


Currently based in Abuja, Akawunta has used his background and experiences across Plateau, Gombe, and the broader Northern region to build bridges between aspiring young people and knowledge-driven opportunities. One the most impactful initiatives of AGH is "Pad A Girl campaign", which provides menstrual hygiene materials and awareness to schoolgirls, emphasizing the importance of girls’ education.




Arewa Genius Hub, founded by Bashir, began as a Facebook group and has since expanded into a multi-platform networks. The platform is known for its vibrant intellectual engagements, leadership mentorship, and business education. One of his signature webinar series, "Business Numbers with Akawunta" equips young entrepreneurs with essential financial literacy and record-keeping skills.


Despite the challenges of running a growing online community with limited resources, Bashir has shown remarkable consistency, resilience, and vision. He continues to use AGH to mobilize, inspire, and train a new generation of leaders, creators, and changemakers across Northern Nigeria.


He is more than a voice. Bashir, fondly called Akawunta, is a network, an organic link connecting thinkers, doers, and dreamers across Northern Nigeria.

North-East Governors Reaffirm Commitment to Security, Agriculture, and Regional Development at Jalingo Meeting

The resolution came at the end of its 12th meeting held in Jalingo, Taraba State, on August 29-30, 2025. The Forum, which comprises the Governors of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe States, said it remained focused on strengthening cooperation in matters relating to security, social development, and economic integration of the subregion. GSU VC Unveils Expansion Plans, Engineering Faculty for Kolmani, and Global Partnerships

By Kamal Hammajo, Gombe | August 29, 2025 The newly confirmed Vice Chancellor of Gombe State University (GSU), Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, has announced ambitious plans to transform the institution, including the creation of a Faculty of Engineering to provide manpower for the Kolmani Oil and Gas Project, the expansion of agricultural education, and the construction of new lecture halls to accommodate thousands of students. Professor Yauta, whose appointment was recently confirmed by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, said the University is committed to expanding opportunities for young people. “ We are making every effort to expand access for our teeming youth to gain admission and pursue their studies, ” he told journalists.
