The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of three abducted persons and the neutralization of three suspected bandits following a security operation in Pindiga District of Akko Local Government Area.
The confirmation was contained in a press release issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Buhari Abdullahi.
According to the statement, suspected armed bandits launched coordinated attacks on Rahama and Lambo villages in the early hours of Friday, January 24, 2026. During the attack on Rahama Village, a 70-year-old man, Tela Bello Ahmadu, was reportedly killed, while two of his sons were abducted by the assailants.
The release further indicated that the attackers later moved to Lambo Village, where additional residents were taken away, prompting distress calls to security agencies.
Reacting to the development, the police spokesperson said tactical teams under Operation Hattara, in collaboration with hunters and vigilante groups, were immediately deployed to the affected areas.
“Our operatives swiftly responded and engaged the bandits in a gun duel, leading to the rescue of two victims and the neutralization of three of the suspects,” the statement said.
The police, however, disclosed that one of the abducted persons lost his life after being caught in the crossfire during the operation, while two others were rescued and taken to the hospital for medical attention.
Items recovered during the operation include AK-47 rifles, magazines, live ammunition, spent shells, and motorcycles believed to have been used by the bandits.
The Commissioner of Police in Gombe State, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, was quoted in the release as reassuring residents of the command's commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
He also called on members of the public to continue to support the police by providing timely and credible information, noting that efforts have been intensified to track down the fleeing suspects.
The police said investigations are ongoing and assured that further updates would be communicated as the operation progresses.
