The Gombe State Police Command has refuted a circulating report claiming that ECWA Church in Kashere, Akko Local Government Area, was attacked.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the Command clarified that officers from the Pindiga Division and the Kashere Outstation immediately reached out to a church elder who was present during the Hausa service. The elder confirmed that no incident whatsoever occurred, adding that police officers were on ground throughout the day as part of routine security coverage.
“For the sake of setting the record straight, the Command, through the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Pindiga and the Officer in Charge of the Kashere Outstation, promptly contacted one of the church elders. The elder, who was physically present during the second segment of the Hausa service, confirmed that no such incident occurred,” the statement said.
The Command described the rumour as irresponsible and capable of causing unnecessary tension within the community. It noted that the source of the false information will be investigated and appropriate action taken.
“The Command views the circulation of such false information as irresponsible and capable of creating unnecessary panic among the public. The source of this misinformation will be thoroughly investigated with a view to taking appropriate action,” the statement added.
The Police urged the public to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring that the Command remains committed to safeguarding all residents of Gombe State.
